| I was out having lunch with Nico and one of her friends, Matt, the other day and he recounted an experience he had at our house.\u00a0\u00a0About a year ago he had been waiting for Nico to get ready to go to a movie and he went into our kitchen to get a glass of water, when all of a sudden he heard me call to him from the other room.\u00a0 \u201cHello!\u201d I called.\u00a0\u00a0 He replied \u201cHi,\u00a0 it\u2019s me, Matt.\u00a0\u00a0I hope you don\u2019t mind, I\u2019m just getting some water.\u201d<\/p>\n There was a pause and then I said, as if I hadn\u2019t heard him, \u201cHello!\u201d\u00a0 He came in to the room saying ,\u201cYeah, hi, I\u2019m waiting for Nico and I got a little thirsty….\u201d\u00a0 He looked around the room, but he didn\u2019t see me anywhere.\u00a0 He was confused, but shrugged and went back into the kitchen.<\/p>\n \u201cHello!\u201d\u00a0 I called out.\u00a0 \u201cDo you want to go out?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 He answered \u201cYes, we want to go to a movie….where are you?\u00a0 Hope?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWhat!??\u201d\u00a0 I yelled.\u00a0 He came running into the room and I was nowhere to be found.\u00a0 Perplexed, he stood in the middle of the room.\u00a0 When Nico appeared and he said \u201cNico…. your mom is weird, she\u2019s playing some sort of bizarre game with me.\u201d\u00a0 He explained what was happening, and she replied nonchalantly.\u00a0 \u201cMy mom isn\u2019t even home.\u00a0 You have been talking to Zazu, our bird.\u00a0 He sounds exactly like my mom.\u201d<\/p>\n Yes, our parrot can sound just like me.\u00a0 This has been amusing, confusing and even occasionally worrisome.\u00a0 Because Zazu yells \u201cWhat?!\u201d\u00a0in my voice, the kids, when they were smaller, would tell their plans to the bird and think they told me.\u00a0 \u201cMommy!!\u201d\u00a0 Ilsey would yell….\u00a0 “What?!\u201d\u00a0 Would come the reply.\u00a0 \u201cI am going across the street to Nick\u2019s house.\u201d\u00a0 Then off she goes.\u00a0 I would come downstairs and not be able to find her.<\/p>\n I am not the only person Zazu imitates.\u00a0 He speaks with a perfect English accent half the time.\u00a0 \u201c\u2019Ello Govna\u2019….\u00a0 Nice cuppa tea?\u00a0 Alright then….\u00a0 Brilliant!\u00a0 Dreadful!!\u201d\u00a0 are all part of his repertoire.\u00a0 He also enjoys copying inanimate objects.\u00a0 Every morning we get a full demonstration of his sound effects loop – telephones, fax machines, garbage trucks backing up and an odd noise that took me a while to figure out….. me chopping mushrooms on a cutting board.<\/p>\n Lest you think he is the only member of our household that isn\u2019t musically inclined, he sings the Star Trek theme. (the original, not Voyager or Next Generation) He also enjoys jamming with Laurence.\u00a0 He especially loves the blues and can come up with some pretty impressive counter melodies and blues licks.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Anybody There?
